A Casement Window is a attached to the frame by hinges which are traditionally located on the sides or top on which they are mounted on the outside.

Which open outwards based on the hinge position. Casement windows were commonly used prior to sash box windows with glass panes being held in place with strips of lead.

History and Range of Design

Heritage Casement windows first appeared in the 18th century replacing older stone mullioned frames. Casement window frames were then made from iron which was crafted by blacksmiths. Due the technical limitations large panes of glass were impossible but they instead were composed using lead strips.

Casement Windows Today

Nowadays, casement windows are not limited by style or design, as they have become versatile and efficient due to developments in sealants which provide insulation similar to or better than sash box windows.
