Top notch workmanship! They replaced all of the French doors on my Victorian property back in September. They did such a great job on that that I had them back out to replace some windows at the rear as well. They managed to fit it all in prior to Christmas as promised. Many thanks team Greenwood Joinery Ltd! Have a prosperous 2025!

Initially did a great job but one window had the glass put in wrong and has fogged up, they are supposed to be replacing it but now don’t answer the phone.

Things to Consider When Planning Your Glass Shopfront Installation in Greater London

When planning your glass shopfront, there are several factors to keep in mind:

Design
Your shopfront should have a welcoming and attractive design. It’s essential to collaborate with a professional to find the right balance between glazing, decorations, and signage. Avoid overcrowding the space with too many signs or posters, as it can create a cluttered look and discourage potential customers. Ensure that the design allows ample natural light to enter, creating a comfortable environment.

Functionality
Practicality is key when designing your shopfront. Consider whether you prefer self-closing doors or ones that can remain open. Think about whether double doors are necessary—if you stock large items or expect high foot traffic, double doors may be beneficial. Additionally, if you sell high-value products, security should be a priority. Adding multiple locks and opting for security glass with toughened plastic interlayers can significantly improve the protection of your shopfront. Security glass is designed to withstand impacts, staying intact even if cracked or broken.

Various Types of Glass Shopfronts

There are several options available when selecting a glass shopfront for installation, such as:

Toughened Glass Shopfronts
Toughened glass is one of the most durable glass options. Through a heat treatment process, it becomes four to five times stronger than regular glass.

This increased strength enhances its durability and helps it withstand blunt impacts without breaking. In the rare case of breakage, the glass shatters into small, rounded pieces, reducing the risk of injury. Additionally, toughened glass is heat-resistant, providing fire protection. While more expensive, it’s ideal for high-traffic locations and offers long-term value.

Laminated Glass Shopfronts
Laminated glass is well-regarded for its strength and is made by sandwiching a clear vinyl interlayer between two glass layers. This improves structural integrity, enabling it to endure significant impacts. Some variations even include a polycarbonate layer, offering bullet-resistant qualities.

In the event of breakage, the pieces remain securely held within the pane due to the interlayer, reducing the risk of injury. Laminated glass also helps in noise reduction, making it particularly beneficial for businesses located in busy or noisy environments.

Fire-Rated Glass Shopfronts
Fire-rated glass is an excellent option for safeguarding your property, employees, and customers from fire hazards. It comes in two main types: fire-resistant and fire-protective glass.

  • Fire-protective glass helps prevent the spread of fire and smoke while offering protection against radiant heat. This type of glass is made from standard glass, not clear ceramic.

  • Fire-resistant glass provides superior protection by containing flames and smoke and is constructed with multiple layers to block radiant heat. In the event of a fire, individuals near the glass are shielded from the intense heat.

Additionally, consider using intumescent paints around your shop for added fire protection.

Glass remains a top choice for commercial entry doors, particularly in offices and retail spaces. It not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also ensures security and can be tailored to fit any design, size, or shape. It’s essential to pick a door that aligns with your functional requirements, with the door’s operation method being a crucial consideration.

Self-Closing Glass Doors

Self-closing doors offer more than just convenience. They streamline the entry and exit process for customers and employees, making it easier to handle heavy goods and manage high foot traffic in stores. Additionally, these doors are energy-efficient and help increase security by preventing unauthorized access.

Foldable Glass Doors

Foldable doors feature two panels that collapse together when opened, combining functionality and visual appeal. They’re perfect for both commercial and residential spaces and are especially beneficial for areas with limited space as they require less room even when fully opened.

Sliding Glass Entryways

Sliding glass doors are a perfect match for contemporary workplaces and commercial settings. Their elegant designs complement any decor, offering a polished and sophisticated look. They are also effective in reducing external noise due to their thick glass and advanced noise-blocking technology.

These doors are ideal for noisy, high-traffic environments where traditional walls and doors are impractical. To match your business’s aesthetic, consult with suppliers who offer a range of frame styles and decorative features to complement your brand.
